Most parents are always looking for ways to be a better parent. There are books galore available. There are great principles out there to be learned and implemented, yet there is a very important element that many parents overlook. Prayer.

The battle for our sons’ hearts won’t be won just by reading and implementing the best parenting techniques. It won’t be won through late night talks, lectures on right and wrong, or even committing to a Bible-preaching church. These things are all important parts of the equation, but they don’t trump the most important piece of the fight. Brooke McGlothlin, Warrior Prayers (emphasis mine)

I received a copy of Brooke’s e-book, Warrior Prayers a few weeks ago. I was excited to receive it and was looking forward to putting it to use! I was pleasantly surprised by a few things.

I thought that this was going to be a list of ways to pray for your sons. It is, a great one. But it is also peppered with her own journey through motherhood. I appreciate her honesty as she shares from her heart some of the harder times in parenting her boys.

I also appreciated Brooke’s emphasis throughout the book on our dependance on the Lord for heart change. “You cannot change the hearts of your boys. You can’t. Period. It’s not your job.” Oh, how I forget this! I am thankful for her encouragement to rely solely on our gracious Lord; through our prayers for our sons we declare our dependance on God to do the work of heart change in our children.

I have already read about Brooke's 21 days of prayer but I read it again b/c I'm still praying about it. As a busy full time working single mom, I'm definitely praying for the time, strength, and endurance! I know my son will definitely benefit.

I read about the 21 day challenge. I would love to participate in it but we don't have any breathing room in our budget right now. What a blessing this would be!!!
