Laundry: Week Two

Wow! I just loved all of your comments and laundry tips! If you haven’t caught them, go read them now. So many good ideas.

My 3 in 30 laundry goals for the month are:

1. Seek Solutions.
2. Pray for Heart Change.
3. Establish a Routine.

Since I received so many helpful comments on the last post, goal #1 has been completed! Thank you! Here are a few things I have started implementing towards goal #3:

  • Starting a load first thing in the morning. I already have a bit of a morning routine, so I have added starting a load of laundry to my routine. This also requires me to gather up laundry the night before, so I have added “gathering” to my evening routine.
  • Doing a load every day. I have been surprised that I actually have enough every day for one load. Some of them have been medium-sized ones, but I have had enough every day, except one. I have also been surprised at how easy it has been! I have found myself much more willing to sit down and fold, and then put away the clothes, since there is not a MOUNTAIN of laundry sitting in front of me. I usually let it build up, and then finally fold when everyone is asking me for clean underwear. Ha! But, this week most of the clothes have been washed, folded and put away, and it has taken MAYBE thirty minutes altogether to get it done.
I still need to find a set time to move the clothes to the dryer, and a set time for folding. (My load from this morning is still in the dryer…this evening!) But, overall I am encouraged.

As for goal #2, I did a quick search for some verses early last week, but that was about it. I would like to spend some more time this week studying some verses in view of memorizing them and putting them up above the washer. I really liked this idea by marinecorpsnomads:

I’m getting ready to make my laundry room a place that is more inviting, and I plan on putting some scripture up to keep my heart attitude in the right place.

Colossians 3:23-24 was suggested by a few people. Love it.
Whatever you do, work heartily,
as for the Lord and not for men,
knowing that from the Lord
you will receive the inheritance as your reward.
You are serving the Lord Christ.
Colossians 3:23-24
And then, there is good ol’ Philippians:
Do nothing from rivalry or conceit,
more significant than yourselves.
Let each of you look
not only to his own interests
but also to the interests of others.
Philippians 2:3-4
Do all things without grumbling or questioning.
Philippians 2:14

I still have quite a way to go, but I am taking baby steps, and am encouraged! Praising the Lord for the grace to change.

Do you have any verses or Biblical perspective to share, that helps you keep your heart in a place of joy through the mundane task of laundry (or changing diapers, etc.)?

Fly Lady says " A load a day keeps the chaos away". I try to do it as well and it really does work and makes me feel productive.

I am trying to find it…but I read a blog post a couple years ago about a mom who prays while while she folds her laundry. She had a specific prayer for each member of her family for each type of clothing. I got away from doing that. I need to start again. It was a great time to pray over the family and made folding a lot more enjoyable!

Laundry – the never ending battle. Since my laundry is also my quiet time room, I try to keep it organized. There are times where this doesn't happen and I too have the mountain. Great start. Can't wait to hear how you're battle plays out.

I love that you've been able to find a way to incorporate one load a day into your routine. For folding, if you set a timer for when the dryer is done, and then dump the clean clothes onto your bed, you will be sure to remember to fold them before you climb in bed at night (at least that works for me).

For us folding is a family affair, I fold and my kids race to put their clothes away before more emerging folded clothes appear. We are a team of folders! I have also found that doing a load a day really does help! I do still feel however that a Baptist Nudist colony would eliminate the laundry problem! 🙂 lol.
